The term “Avodah Ivrit” (Hebrew Labor) brings up images of the Jewish People returning to Zion to build roads and farm the land.

Those days are gone. Israel’s economy is now extremely reliant on non-Israeli labor, a practice marred by pervasive exploitation by employers and supported by the government.

In an article published in the Jerusalem Post, Jacob Udell, Manager of Data Management and Migrant Housecleaners at Kav LaOved, demonstrates how the government of Israel must recognize its complicity in the plight of non-Israeli workers and do substantially more to protect the rights of these vulnerable people.
