Agriculture workers in Israel, many of whom are Palestinians or migrant workers from Thailand, are exposed every day to risks of accidents and professional illnesses. Common risks are, for example, work with pesticides and work on heights.
Kav LaOved’s project “Working Safely in Agriculture” raises workers’ awareness to their legal rights, and to their employers’ obligations, so that they can perform their jobs and return home safely.
The project’s actions include:
- Raising workers’ awareness to their legal rights to safety, and to ways to keep safe in agriculture. Guidance material is available online (see below on this page) and in print in various languages (Hebrew, Arabic, Thai and English);
- Offering safety workshops for workers in Arabic and Thai, in the field
- Sharing information on specific cases of safety violations, also with the authorities
Our goal is to strengthen the safety of agricultural workers and ensure that the number of casualties, fatalities and occupational diseases in the sector can significantly decline.
